Latest Technology Inventions

Latest Technology Inventions Posted by Philip,Abuja The latest technology invention in environmental pollution is a tower that cleans outdoor air. The Tower is a seven-metre (23 feet) high structure that removes ultra-fine particles from the air using a patented ion-technology developed by scientists at Delft University of Technology. According to the World Health Organization, air pollution causes the greatest environmental threat to our health. Air pollution causes respiratory and cardiovascular disease and accounts for over 7 million premature deaths every year - and that death toll is rising at an alarming rate. In California, where residents suffer from the worst health impacts of dirty air in the United States, air pollution causes premature death for 53,000 residents every year. In London, England, dirty air accounts for one out of every twelve deaths.

Posted by Philip,Abuja Unlike chocolate chip cookies or tomato soup, the invention of bread can't be pinned down to a single person or people; instead, it evolved to its present state over the course of millennia. Although the modern version of sliced bread is a fairly new invention ( Wonder Bread began marketing  the first sliced loaf of bread in 1930), bread itself is an ancient food with origins dating back more than 22,000 years. In 2004, at an excavation site called Ohalo II, in what is modern-day Israel,  scientists found  22,000-year-old barley grains caught in a grinding stone: the first evidence of humans processing wild cereal grains. But these early "bread"

Scientists Want to Use Lasers to Guide Aliens to Earth. What Could Go Wrong??

Posted by Philip,Abuja We could build a laser that could send signals to extraterrestrial intelligence. Not we as in the staff of Live Science. (That's probably beyond our skill set.) But we as in humanity. A new paper published yesterday (Nov. 5) in  The Astrophysical Journal  has found that humanity could feasibly build an infrared laser hot and bright enough that — if we shined it directly at nearby exoplanets — alien astronomers should be able to detect it using  sky-watching technology  not too much more advanced than our own. (Presuming they're out there, of course.) [ 9 Strange, Scientific Excuses for Why We Haven't Found Alien Life Yet ] It would have to be pretty huge, but  not unthinkably so : One possible design the researchers proposed would require a 1 to 2 megawatt laser and at least a  100-foot (30 meter)

Stretchy Artificial 'Skin' Could Give Robots a Sense of Touch

Posted by Philip,Abuja Rubber electronics and sensors that operate normally even when stretched to up to 50 percent of their length could work as artificial skin on robots, according to a new study. They could also give flexible sensing capabilities to a range of electronic devices, the researchers said. Like  human skin , the material is able to sense strain, pressure and temperature, according to the researchers. "It's a piece of rubber, but it has the function of a circuit and sensors," said Cunjiang Yu, an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Houston. Yu and his team describedtheir innovation in a study published online Sept. 8 in the  journal Science Advances . [ Super-Intelligent Machines: 7 Robotic Futures ]

Auto Rolls-Royce Wraith The smoothest ride By Matthew de Paula and Cliff Ransom

Posted by Philip,Abuja Rolls-Royce Wraith Courtesy Rolls-Royce The Rolls-Royce Wraith automatically adjusts both its transmission and suspension to the road ahead. Only the Wraith uses satellite navigation data and cameras to react to upcoming turns and on- and off-ramps. By shifting to account for them, it squeezes more power out of the V12 engine, and by adjusting the suspension, it creates a smoother ride. Next-gen systems will also accommodate topographic changes.  $294,025   Rolls Royce

Disney's 'Magic Bench' Puts You in the Picture with Animated Figures

Posted by Philip,Abuja A new "Magic Bench" designed by Disney Research lets you interact with endearing animated characters — and no special glasses or headsets are required. Instead, the complete environment — the seat, the sitter and the cartoon humanoid animals — is mirrored on a screen opposite the bench, making it possible for others to watch the scene unfold.  How does the  illusion  work? A camera and sensor capture images and gather depth

7 Science Innovations That Are Changing Conservation

In our still relatively brief existence, humans have evolved our way to an era many are now calling the Anthropocene – a new geological epoch defined by human impact on Earth. But our unparalleled creativity is a double-edge sword. We are undeniably contributing to many of the global challenges now facing our species, and all species who share this planet. At the same time, it is because of our impact that the world needs human innovation now more than ever. We know we must stabilize our climate. We know we must meet the

The top 5 digital health innovations you might not have heard of

Finally, after decades of incremental change, we are now seeing an explosion in healthcare innovation, utilizing new technologies and techniques to deliver models of care that include and empower patients and caregivers, as well as driving greater quality, safety and efficiency. Sure, not all the innovation that we see is helpful, or even safe, and we need to take care to assess the evidence, choosing only ideas that show genuine benefits. However, for those of us living in predominantly government-funded, universal healthcare systems, we seem to have woken up to the fact governments not only don’t have all the solutions – they often aren’t well placed to define what the problem actually is!

The 12 Most Important Health Innovations Of The Year

SANOFI PASTEUR'S DENGVAXIA: FINALLY, A VACCINE FOR DENGUE Dengue—a virus most commonly transmitted by the  Aedes aegypti  mosquito—infects some 400 million people yearly. It causes high fever, severe headaches, vomiting, and sometimes death. About 40 percent of the world’s population is at risk, and as the climate warms and travel increases, that risk will only climb. This year, the  World Health Organization started recommending  the first vaccine to prevent dengue, and inoculations have begun in hot zones like Brazil and the Philippines. Four viruses cause dengue, so developing a vaccine that protects against all four took researchers 20 years to do. If 20 percent of the population gets vaccinated, dengue cases could drop 50 percent within five years. Controlling dengue could also reduce the $9 billion the disease costs global economies each year.

Three Breakthroughs That Will Disrupt The Tech World In 2019

posted by Philip 1. Blockchain-Based Identity And Privacy With the growing prevalence of data breaches and the massively interconnected world we live in, new ways to verify identity and protect privacy will be game changers. Blockchain is a natural for this role because the whole point of it is to provide robust, incorruptible — yet encrypted — recordkeeping that anyone can easily verify. Companies like Evernym are already starting to do it. Blockchain can also be used for shopping security, whether online or in person. Shopin, a startup in this space, has now created a "universal shopper profile" that is undergirded by blockchain. Unlike most systems these days, in which your purchase histories are stored and carefully scrutinized and shared by big names such as Google, Shopin restricts its
